MiniGIST stands for Miniaturised Geographical Information System for Tourism. It is a map-based Java application that runs on mobile phones, enabling visitors to quickly see the location of local business on the map, as well as to access information about these businesses on their mobile phone. Any details entered by registered businesses through the MiniGIST portal, such as telephone numbers, special offers, room availability etc, will be shown on the mobile phones of tourists using this application as well. Using Bluetooth Technology, the MiniGIST system allows the electronic delivery of up-to-date tourism information at no cost to the tourists, 24 hours, 7 days a week!
Currently our system is under trials in the area of theLoch Lomond National Park- however, we would be extremely interested in trying it out in other areas in Scotland as well. If you are interested, please contact us and we will get in touch with you! If you are interested in deploying the MiniGIST system in your area, please feel free to talk directly to us or Glasgow Caledonian University's Kit-Out the Park team, who can offer advice and assistance on funding for your area.

The MiniGIST Project was officially launched in Callander, Scotland, on May 29th 2008. For more information about the project, please visit our About MiniGIST and the Multimedia section!
